The Gift of the Living Word

IN ADDITION to the life transforming experiences that take place in every local Christian Ashram in the United States and Canada, God is opening the doors for college students to participate in Christian Ashram retreats. SPU students like Enid Dahlstrom and Sara Nisbett organized Ashram events on their campuses; however, the shared vision of UCAI Executive Director, Tom Albin, and the Dean of Seattle Pacific Seminary, Doug Strong, was to engage both ministries in a strategic plan to reach more people in more places.

In addition to engaging his colleagues to offer a Christian Ashram for undergraduate students, Dean Strong also invited two students from the SPU graduate school of theology, Greg Reffner and Megan McInnis, to assist in the planning and leadership. The goal was to enable Greg and Megan to be in ministry with the SPU undergraduate students, AND to ask them to help lead similar spiritual events in the colleges they had recently graduated (Greg from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas; and, Megan from Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon).

Tom Albin enlisted the help of two young adult Ashram leaders to assist him, Samuel Stanley Jones from India and Lacey Canfield, from Nashville, Tennessee. Both Sam and Lacey are deeply committed to Jesus. They are also gifted singers, songwriters, and worship leaders.

In April of 2017 the SPU Christian Ashram took place at Camp Casey on Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound north of Seattle. Altogether, 30 people experienced the presence and power of the living Word of God--Jesus Christ. Lives were transformed and miracles happened because of the prayers and financial support of people like you.

In addition to the careful and prayerful preparation of the SPU Leadership Team, Greg Reffner and Tom Albin were chosen to lead the first Southwestern College Campus Ashram at Camp Horizon in Kansas, January 25-27, 2019. Lives were transformed, relationships healed, and the vision extended.
